I have this friend, his name is The Dress Code.
He tells me he'll keep me safe and I know -
That I should just listen to him when he tells me to cover up my skin.
Sometimes he can be quite controlling.
He tells me to lengthen my skirt
and stop putting so much makeup on my face.
No one likes a girl who looks so fake.
God forbid I show my stomach.

Cover up your shoulders when your in public.
These boys they need an education
and your nothing more than a distraction.
Sometimes he thinks my body is his,
So I swallow my opinions.
My scale turns into and exam.
Suddenly my grade is all that I am.
If I avoid him, I just get bruises.
My confidence gets cut into pieces.
He says he has reasons, but I won't ask what.
As long as I don't look like a Slut.
Dress code and I have been friends for a while.
So when I see him, I flash a smile,
but inside my stomach is burning,
and all the red flags in my head have start screaming.
