Many miles I hiked to set my weary head to sleep, Hundred highways, pale moonlight, northwards I shall keep These eyes have seen acts of grace and pain beyond belief, But still there’s many miles to go before I find relief Once, the time so long ago it’s record turned to dust I was a man of blackened heart, found pleasures in disgust, The Lord have called me to himself and hollered “Evil one! You’ll gather souls for me to damn, and rest when you are done”
Soul without corpse Moving on along these highways Carried by the kind hearts ‘fore the morning light Grim is my work And so I wander earth Among the living and the damned as the lonesome nameless wraith
The morning comes with sunlight I descend into my grave Eerie, dreamlike dormant state I watch my life depraved But once the midnight tolls the bell and darkness takes the world I’d hit the road and roam about and seek for feral souls
There will come the night when my spirit will be free But before I throw my shackles off there’s work to do for me So if you meet me hiking there and stop to give me ride You’d better bear a stainless heart, or Hell is where we stride
Soul without corpse Moving on along these highways Carried by the kind hearts ‘fore the morning light Grim is my work And so I wander earth Among the living and the damned as the lonesome nameless wraith
