English translation:

Chapter VII: The Sacrificial Tree

verse:
How did it ever catch fire? Perhaps from a conjurer
a single spark fled from flints’ grasp,
or maybe – as the people tell the legend of the church –
the sacrificial tree of Ukko was stricken by a heavenly flame.

verse II:
Who knows! But terror took the minds of Finlands’ men,
when they saw the blaze above the hills,
terror blunted the tips of blades, wormed past the bravery, -
others tried to run, others pleaded for mercy.

chorus:
This is how ended the glorious fight, the fight of Väinös’ spell,
this is how ended the cherished day, the day of Väinös’ time.
And so soon, before the torch of dusk did fade,
Finland at the field of Kupittaa had taken a new faith.
