What goes around Comes around What grows above starts underground And it's hard to tell Hard to tell Whether it's coming, going, coming, going What goes around Comes around What grows above starts underground And it's hard to tell Hard to tell Whether it's coming, going, coming, going
Small seeds grow big trees with thick leaves That reach for the sun While the roots dig deep underground What goes around comes around especially when there's only so much to go around
Two trees stared at each other in a field Family, a sister and a brother is how they feel Brand new saplings, roots unraveling, branches catching sun rays just basking Asking for nothing but the blue, warm sky, breeze blowing by, pure as a newborn's eye They're separated by about a half mile but connected by glad smiles They laugh while the wind blows Because all the trees just dance Otherwise they meditate, surrounded by plant friends Smaller trees all of these are their tribe Tree people so peaceful it's hard to describe
What goes around Comes around What grows above starts underground And it's hard to tell Hard to tell Whether it's coming, going, coming, going
The four seasons brought more freezing wind Than a spring that was much more pleasing The brother tree had a real hard winter And blew off some branches and left his bark splintered The cold fury of the snow flurries got him so worried That he began to grow in a hurry When other trees around him tried to be bigger, It was every tree for himself he figured So he stretched out his branches and stole their light And he made his roots double almost overnight Wouldn't let a sun ray or a drop get by They pleaded with him, if he didn't stop they'd die But he was so scared of being unprepared that he just didn't care His sister tree stared from way over there Where she shared with the family And watched him grow along with his insanity
What goes around Comes around What grows above starts underground And it's hard to tell Hard to tell Whether it's coming, going, coming, going
The years passed The brother's mere path fading back in a way that was clear as glass See, this tree thought that if he was the biggest he'd be ok He didn't see it was a sickness You can't control how life unfolds and so by the time he was ripe and old A city had sprung up with lots of tall buildings Before long that field was all filled in By then he was all alone So he got surrounded by brick walls and stone His sister had a family, which was really smart Because they were so beautiful they became a city park An itty bitty part of the sky was all he saw She saw sunsets, swing-sets and seesaws We all got choices to make so remember, Greed bites like a poisonous snake
