(Instrumental) Thanks for checking out my album! It's a little different, so I wanted to explain what this album is and what it isn't. I think for many of us, 2020 was a reality check that forced us to take stock of our lives. When the pandemic put a frustrating stop to the project I'd been working on, I started looking at my archive of demos.
I'd recorded dozens of demos over the years, always with the intention that someday I'd rerecord those songs properly with a full band. They weren't intended to be heard in their raw form by anyone but me. Now 18 years since I last actually played in a band, I'm acknowledging the reality that those days are gone, and all these songs will die with me unless I release them into the wild in their current state. I've assembled 10 of those songs here into what I think is a cohesive album.
Since these songs were recorded for my reference only, they're not polished in the way that a proper studio recording would be. Most of the parts were recorded in one take, and the performances aren't necessarily perfect, just “good enough”. About half of the guitar solos are missing—either I intended to trade off with another guitarist, or I just hadn't written anything yet—and some of the others are just placeholder solos to be refined later. When you hear the rhythm section drop back, just imagine a guitar solo there.
Otherwise, these are all complete songs, with drums, bass, guitars, and vocals from start to finish. Just about everything was recorded in my apartment at various times in the last 20 years. I've cleaned up the tracks as well as I could without being able to set foot in a proper recording studio*. I hope the discerning listener can overlook the imperfections and just hear the songs the way I hear them in my head. Thanks for listening!
