my heart is stone.
can not bear to look at
her half smile.
above it stars feel no further
as my hand in hers.
past her waves hammer
downward into the earth
beneath the sea.
every time i glance above, the stars
seem to have changed
as though entire intervals of time
had come
and gone. like silent lovers growing
distant and allowing less of their light to
vanish into deep something.
not much now, her lips still linger.
through perpetual remorse
even stone can break.
there are other
quiet earths above us.
beat me down
beneath the sea.
