Waking up to tragic news
Talking of another life we lose
Much too common this has become
Seems delusion has finally won
Might be a kid or an innocent man
That falls by an officer's hand
Might be choked to death by a knee
Of a man who feels as judge and jury

Beyond the noise these questions
Keep on ringing in my head

Can we pledge allegiance
To this state of ours
If racists hold political powers'
Respect the flag
Of our country
If it doesn't stand of equality?
If we turn our head and lose our eyes
We allow this hideous system's rise
That judges people not for who they've been
But simply by the color of their skin

Imagine waking up in fright
Not knowing if you'll get home tonight
If you ain't white or act pristine
You could be the next in line

It's time for an awakening
Cause our fellow men need reckoning

How dare we take a life
By the color of its skin?
