Reap What You Sow (Salmela, Gregory) It’s been said you reap what you sow And now we see it everyday on the news It seems we are only ever seconds away From another disaster brought on by ourselves We build cities right on top of fault lines Loan more money than can ever be repaid We use weapons of war to remove leaders All the while it’s the innocent who pay
Reap what you sow, legacy of mankind Reap what you sow, written in our history Reap what you sow, it happens time and time again Reap what you sow, it is the human way
We sell alcohol to alcoholics We sell pharmaceuticals to drug addicts We let murderers purchase guns to kill with We allow our youth to consume endless violence We draw power from nuclear reactions That we do not even fully understand We smash atoms to discover particles That we cannot reliably predict
Reap what you sow, legacy of mankind Reap what you sow, written in our history Reap what you sow, it happens time and time again Reap what you sow, it is the human way
The problem with all of this is the innocent who suffer For the wrongs of foolish men who came before them Planting seeds of destruction and then watching them burn Acting surprised when house of cards falls down Could there not be wise ones who lead the way amongst us Guiding us to a better way of thinking So that we can learn from history’s mistakes And look to God to find a better way
Are we sowing the destruction of earth Have our leaders truly not learned a thing History tells us that they never really learn And so the cycle will continue again We just march on further into carnage It is the only way we have ever been Let us seek God to find an answer to this mess And crawl our way out of the mire
