There was once a golden age
when fish life was plentiful
the oceans were clean back then
this time has slipped away
through our own recklessness the
ocean's fate it has been sealed
we have taken it all for granted
fixated on meaningless profit
sacred role as protectors
just not taken seriously
the ocean used as food supply
toilet and a garbage dump
more & more fish constantly being caught
everything must be available always
total environmental destruction
to catch and kill exotic species
tearing the ocean floor apart
for oceanic delicacies
There's barely any fish in the sea
the oceans have been exploited
there's so much poison in the sea
we've filled it with waste and chemicals
there's barely any life in the sea
we have drained it of everything
scientific research ships are
used as mantel of disguise
to conceal whale killing
butchering of gentle giants
delivering oily whale flesh
to greedy human and canine mouths
longlining from illegal boats
in marine reserves and parks
exploitation of protectorates
no regard for the sanctity of
delicate age-old ecosystems
take, take, take, ‘til there's nothing left
there's no mercy for the bycatch
turtles, dolphins, whales and sharks
thrown dead overboard as waste
this system is unsustainable
ruthless plunder with no time given
for population regeneration

the oceans have been exploited

shipwrecks full of bombs
boneyards of rusty
military debris
poison seeps out slowly
just a matter of time ‘til the
metal rusts completely
leaking deadly chemicals,
deathstroke to a dying sea
this has become such a shameful age
fish populations receding everywhere
the oceans are becoming dead zones
the time to act is slipping away
through our own foolish ignorance
the oceans are being destroyed

there are some who fight for our ocean
countering stupid government decisions
working against climate inaction
stopping whalers, finners and polluters
